Owing to the high level of popularity and attraction that online poker games and live poker games have incurred over the years; the perilous glamour quotient associated with the casino life, filmmakers have been attracted for decades to produce numerous movies with plots revolving around the risks and hazards associated with the poker games. While some filmmakers dwelled on the strange twist of fate which made the underdog protagonist become a millionaire overnight while others sought to deify the misty haze accumulated around the casino life and there were some who chose a balanced take on the subject matter and portrayed the real casino life along with its risks and dangers and as a route which must not be considered a guaranteed shortcut to success.

Casino, one of the best poker movies in the series which was released in 1995 was a mirror reflection of Las Vegas in the early years. The plotline revolved around the Las Vegas casino, Stardust which was being used by the underworld mafia as an outlet to circulate money for carrying on their illegal operations in Las Vegas.

21 was another movie filmed on the risky world of poker which was released in 2008 and became very popular. It portrayed a MIT blackjack team which travels to Las Vegas and rips the casinos off for hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, the movie is something much more beyond these poker clashes and has a dramatic plotline running side by side with it.

Ocean’s Eleven, released in 2001, was a remake of the original one which was released in 1960. The plotline revolved around casino robberies planned by a mastermind, Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney) and carried out by his eleven member league who rip off all the accounts of The Bellagio, the Mirage and the MGM Grand, three major Las Vegas casinos and make their way out of the scene without being caught.

The Cooler, released in 2003 is another movie which delves into the lives simmering within the precincts of the casinos in Las Vegas through a romantic plotline. The protagonist of the movie, Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) is very unlucky at the poker table and is already under a debt of 100,000 $ in order to pay off which, he takes up the job of a ‘cooler’, a person who gambles next to high rollers and the unlucky person that he is, he transfers bits of his bad luck to these high rollers and makes them lose huge amounts at the poker table and his bad luck continues to manifest itself in different shapes and forms till he is struck by cupid.

Rounders was another movie in this league which was released in 1998 and was fraught with actions on the poker table. The plotline revolved around a character called Mike (Matt Damon) who continuously appears to be juggling his commitments between his lady love, Jo (Gretchen Mol) who wants him to quit gambling and his friend, Worm (Edward Norton) who wants Mike to help him pay off his debts by playing and winning some high stake games for him.

Amidst all these movies, Casino Royale which was filmed not once or twice but time after time featuring one of the most glamorous and intellectual detectives in the world, James Bond which added a glamour quotient to the game and popularised online poker games and live poker games among people of all age groups.
